COMMA RULES Take out a piece of paper and copy down each of the following comma rules and write a sentence with an example of each.  Keep this in the LA section of your binder.  1. Use commas to separate items in a series. 2. Use commas to separate equal adjectives that modify the same noun. 3. Use commas to separate introductory phrases and clauses. 4. Use commas to separate two sentences (independents clauses) joined by the words "and" "or" "but" 5. Use commas to set off appositives or explanatory phrases.
