Mike FlorianAssociate Principal
It is a pleasure to serve the Bainbridge Island School District at Woodward Middle School. I feel privileged to have been selected for the Associate Principalship in 2006 and look forward to another exciting year with an enthusiastic group of students and staff. In the past, I have taught math in the Bainbridge Island School District from grades 6-12 and served as the Chair of the Math Department. I have also coached volleyball and basketball, served as computer club advisor, webmaster, site council chair, assistant principal at BHS and on numerous district committees. I grew up in Poulsbo until age eight when my family moved to Ketchikan, Alaska. I spent the next ten years in Alaska and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and even managed to waterski every summer! I try to return to the familiar waters of SE Alaska every two years to fish and visit friends and relatives. I attended Pacific Lutheran University for both my undergraduate degree and Masters in School Administration. In addition to teaching, I have worked as a TV station manager, air freight deliveryman, millwright helper, carpenter, landscaper, and many other interesting jobs. My wife, Debbie, is a concert pianist. She has been playing the piano since age four and currently has 45 students in her studio. She plays with the Bremerton Symphony and recently completed a two year term as President of the Washington State Music Teachers Association. Our daughter, Melanie, is a vocal music teacher and graduated from PLU in 2005. Our son, Mark, graduated from Gonzaga in 2007 and began a career as an actuary. They are both terrific kids and we enjoy spending time with them whenever we can. My hobbies include reading, basketball, raquetball, carpentry and photography. I love to spend vacations traveling and visiting new places, especially places with nice hot weather! I have enjoyed every year of my experience in education and I anticipate another great year at Woodward. ![]() |
