Summer Explorations
Looking for summer activities? Here are some suggestions from our staff that will provide your child opportunities to explore with their minds and bodies. Enriching children's minds with images and experiences that will assist with academic tasks during the school year, giving them something to "draw upon" for writing, reading, math, and the arts.
Visit
our local libraries in Kitsap County: www.krl.org
www.school.discovery.com/clipart
Read stories to your child several times a week, preferably 20-30 minutes
each day or evening.
Explore
a local park such as Fay Bainbridge State Park or
our
jewel, Mt. Rainier National Park. Pack lunch & camera.

help
your child cook easy treats.....pudding & berries are a "cooler"
for
summer afternoons. Try easy biscuits, rolling and patting dough for dexterity.
Writing!!!!
Buy a postcard each week and have your child write a note to a friend.
Even
a few words for kindergartners is terrific. www.postcardsfrom.com/,

Traveling
is an opportunity to use maps.
For older students, ask them to help figure mileage, gas requirements,
time considerations and fares. Younger students benefit from learning about
maps, what information they contain and which way is UP!

Family Math by Stenmark, Thompson and Cossey is a good book of math activities for children and their parents to do together.
If you could only pick ONE thing for summer, use our public library each week, get books and read on the floor. Enjoy each other.
See you in September!
