Our Intermediate School houses 5th and 6th grades. In 6th grade we share around kids between 3 teachers, each having around 27 assigned to our "home room"class. By limiting class size and the number of teachers, we hope to provide a smooth transition from an elementary school experience to the world of secondary education (middle & high schools); an added benefit of this scenario is the opportunity to truly get to know the kids we teach.
The classroom is our learning community. By establishing a climate of clear expectations, mutual respect, and positive attitudes, we maximize our learning experience. I am not only a teacher, but learner as well. In facilitating the process, I hope that each student can get the most out of the learning opportunities. Students will get out of my classes only so much as they put into them.
Both the students and I live by Sakai's Four R's: Reasonable, Respectful, Reasonable, and Reliable. All of our classroom expectations stem from these basic ideas.
