Hello! More to come.
Due to half
days, assemblies, conference week, non school days, various academic class
activities, field trips and holidays, it is imperative that students accept more
responsibility to work on their music at home before they enter the band
room. Otherwise, we have to take each section/person and work on their
music at school which takes an enormous amount of time. The result is
slow progress and a decline in moral. A few minutes of practicing at home will
save hours at school and result in an organization that is fun and rewarding to
participate in. Please encourage your child to practice on a regular
basis. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to
contact me. Grades
in band are based on participation.
WINTER RECITAL

will occur during your child's band period. Performances will be during your child's band period.
If your child has band on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of this week,
their recital is on the 17th. If your child has band

SPRING CONCERT!
MAY 21, Sakai Gymnasium
5th Grade Band 6:30
6th Grade Band 7:45
There are 2 important dates for the 6th grade band that I want to bring to your attention.
The first date is May (to be
announced). Band students who have prepared their music and have
demonstrated proper behavior will present a concert at Ordway elementary school.
Their performance will begin at ?:?? am and last approximately 30
minutes. Dress will be normal school clothes.
Our second performance is the Spring Concert, Thursday, May 21 at 7:45 PM in the Sakai gymnasium. 6th grade students will need to arrive at 7:20. I hope this is just a reminder. Your child was instructed several times to give you this date, so you could mark it on your calendar.
Attention 5th and 6th grade parents/guardians, please help your child to attend the Spring Concert performance on May. I realize students are involved in many other activities. Please inform coaches, scout leaders, etc. that your child has only one chance to perform with their peers in the Spring Concert. Please call me if there is a problem. The concert is an extension of the class period and consists of a major role in their grade.
Students should dress up for this public performance: Girls – dresses Boys - nice shirt and tie; coat is optional. NO T-SHIRTS OR SHORTS.
I have been very proud of the students this year. Performing music is very enjoyable; however, at times, frustration is experienced during the preparation process. This is also the time of year where some students want to quit band because they are afraid to perform in front of an audience. I have never had a student regret performing at a concert. Please keep up the encouragement and praise at home. I think you are going to be very proud of your child’s Spring Concert.
PLEASE NOTE: You are also
welcome to attend the May 21 “during-school” concert; 6th grade - 8:45 and 5th
grade - 1:15.
