My most important belief is that art is VISION MADE VISUAL. That means that I think that the feelings, ideas and beliefs that we hold dear can be the most effective fodder for artwork. I personally search for the authentic expression of universal and personal beliefs in my artwork. I ask my students to search deeply to express their most important ideas, feelings and beliefs. I take risks in my own work, and ask my students to take risks as well.

I love teaching at Sakai, and have often told our AMAZING students that I would continue teaching them even if I won the lottery (of course I also let them know I would hire a full time assistant and get every tech and art tool around). As an art teacher, I have done just about every artistic process (they make you do that in art school...besides, I am interested in every art process...and have to keep reminding myself that I need to limit myself).

When I am not teaching our FABULOUS students at Sakai Intermediate School, I create artwork in my studio...nestled in the woods on Bainbridge Island. I am a printmaker and book artist. I work with an 24"x48" Ettan etching press and a variety of materials to make monoprints and monotypes. Basically, I use acetate to make shapes that I ink and print; scrapers, textures and brushes to work into the inks, and occasionally stamps and other materials that add texture and detail.

In addition, I make books that incorporate text and poetry using mixed media, letterpress, and printmaking techniques. as well as a variety of artist books. I publish my limited edition books under the press name "Bad Girl Press".
