Bainbridge Island Public Schools are prepared for a variety of emergency situations

*Bainbridge Island schools annually review emergency plans, practice emergency responses and drills, and promote staff training.

*PTOs are strong partners in our emergency preparedness efforts.

*Contact your school office or PTO President to obtain specific response plans.

*Staff members are trained in and serve on eight response teams: Incident Management, Search and Rescue, Fire/Utilities, Damage Assessment, Support/Security, Parent/Student Reunion, Student/Staff Supervision, and First Aid.

*Student/Parent Reunion procedures - understand these:

1. The B.I.S.D. will keep and care for all students in an emergency until the end of the school day or longer if the emergency dictates.

2. Parents provide an extended list of authorized adults to whom they give authority to pick up their children in an emergency situation.
3. Should conditions exist that make transportation impossible, students will be kept at school until the parent, guardian or an authorized adult comes to check the student out of school. It is expected that the parents/guardians/authorized adults will come as soon as possible to pick up their student(s).
4. In all situations, the superintendent may make other decisions dependent on the type of emergency. During any community-wide emergency, please listen to emergency broadcast stations (TV channels 4, 5, 7, and 13), and radio stations as listed in the district 2002-03 Emergency Communications Bulletin at     http://www.bainbridge.wednet.edu/forparents/emergency/bulletin/index.html.
5. To check a student out of school during/after an emergency, the parent/guardian/authorized adult should:

a) have picture ID with them when they arrive;

b) report to the area designated for student requests;

c) complete necessary paper work;

d) proceed as directed to student pick-up area; and

e) wait for student(s) to be escorted to them.
