COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
community service information community service form
Strawberry Hill Park
We need someone to create a flyer, distribute it to the softball
teams, gather the input or ideas, and present them to the committee for approval. I think he/she will need to snap a few photos of the wall (it looks like a backstop), copy a few photos off the internet of windscreens for examples, and put together a flyer to explain the contest. He/she would then distribute the flyers to the teams (hand them out to managers, and post on the new bulletin board at the snack shack), then collect all the ideas, maybe talk to the girls with the best ideas (get better drawings, etc), then meet with a few of us to select the best logo or design. Contact Jay Kenny if interested at kinney@skf-law.com

The Oysters for Salmon Project
It's getting to be that time of
year again; you guessed it-oyster time! The Oysters for Salmon project is finally being allowed to
liberate our algae-filtering oysters from captivity, and onto Eagle Harbor beaches. We'll be collecting full
oyster trays from marinas, boating them to a brand new work vessel, emptying oysters into fish totes, and then taking them to various beaches to be laid onto
intertidal areas. We'll need a lot of volunteers for this, so please consider joining us at the
Public dock
for some great days in the sun & out in the water 'messing about in boats!' Mission dates for the Oyster Liberation Front:
May 3rd 4th and 5th... May 10th and 11th
Two shifts per day; 8:30 am -1:30 pm
and 2 pm - 7 pm
We also need land and water vehicles, so if you can help by coming with a truck, a skiff or
some other small work boat, just be in good enough shape to drive and let others do the
harder work; as for the other help; I'm looking for 12 able bodied people per shift
for the following tasks:
*Help on the docks collecting the trays that will go to the Carolin Dow; our mother ship
that's a new and massively strong marine research vessel;
*Help on the ship separating oysters from trays, including a vinegar bath to
kill tunicates;
*Help pressure washing the trays on land and trucking them to Vincent road to be
stored.
If it's at all like the past two years, it will be days of work as well as play out on
the water, so be sure to dress for getting wet and dirty from head to toe; Please WEAR
rubber boots!! And as always I'll feed you yummy snacks during the shifts...
Please email or phone me to sign up for a shift or two. Don't forget your name
and phone
number, because I'll be calling/emailing you to confirm. If you sign up and
then realize that you can't make it, please let me know ASAP. Remember, for the first day,
we'll meet at Eagle Harbor Marina. Ate that day, we'll meet at the City Public Dock in
town,
promptly at 8:30 and at 2:00. It'll be a great time, so I hope to see you there!

Boys & Girls Club
Here are a few good reasons to come here to volunteer:
1. Do you ever feel like nobody really notices what you do? The little
kids who come here to the Club will admire and respect you - they think our teenage volunteers are fascinating!!2. We are right by the High School, so you can come down here and put
in some time right after school (no transportation issues after a long day).3. Free Food! (We serve a snack to our K-4 Members every day, and we'd love to share with you!)
4. Volunteering looks good on your resume and on college applications (okay, it's a little early to think about that, but why wait?).
Just in case you are interested in coming down here and helping us out, I've attached our Volunteer Application form and Background Check, both of which I need from you before you can work with the kids. If you are looking for your volunteer hours and don't want to fill out a bunch of paperwork, we can use you at the Toe Jam Hill Run on April 14th. Please let me know if you would be interested in that, and we'll get in touch with you about it.
