STUDENTS

1.         ATTENTION SPARTANS:  Welcome to BHS!  U.B.S. (United Brothers & Sisters) Club will meet for the first time this year TODAY at 3:00 near the "wagon wheel" (by the 300 building).  We would like to meet all of our Exchange Students, our ESL/ELL students, our ASB/Leadership students, and all New and Not-so-new students to BHS! Our club's motto is:  Breaking Down Barriers, Building Up Community. If you can't make it this time, check us out on our school website under "CLUBS" and email our officers.  Remember:  Everyone can make a Difference.  Mil Gracias!

2.         SENIORS - The next Senior Project advisory meeting is set for Wednesday, September 19 at 11:40 am.    This is a half-day early dismissal.     You need to meet with your advisor in his/her classroom or office.   Remember this is a graduation requirement this year!    There have been some changes regarding advisors so check with any teacher to see an updated list of student advisors.

3.         Hey…do you like cake?  We do, so if you want to get some free cake, build some sets, hang some lights, maybe just have some fun, come to Tech today and learn just how rad it is.  3:00pm, LGI, fun!

4.         Attention Sophomores and Juniors:  Save the Date!  The PSAT/PLAN exams will be held at BHS on Saturday, Oct. 20th @ 8:00 am.  Sign ups for these exams will begin October 1st and run through October 11th.  Sign up and pay with Sarah Spray in the main office.  Make check payable to BHS for $17 and indicate which exam you will take on your check.  The PSAT is designed for Juniors and the PLAN is designed for Sophomores.  If you are a sophomore who has completed Geometry, you can choose to take either the PLAN or the PSAT.  The week of October 8th, Counselors will be visiting your English classes to discuss which exam is appropriate for you.  See your counselor if you have questions.

5.         FROM THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE – Welcome back!  After a fun summer hope you are ready for a great school year.  Just a few reminders about Attendance:  Notes are not accepted, only phone calls.  The Attendance phone is available 24 hours a day.  Give your folks the number - 842-2918.  When your parent/guardian has called to excuse you to leave early, a green slip will be filled out and posted on the board next to Attendance office.  Remember to pick it up before you go to class. You must give your teacher a green slip if you are leaving class early.  If you come late to school, please come by the Attendance Office and sign in. (The only exception to this is first thing in the morning.  If you arrive before 8:55 go directly to class) We will give you a pink slip to get into class.  If possible have a parent/guardian call before you get here.....then your tardy will be excused.  Your absences must be excused within 48 hours.  You will find more information about Attendance in your handbook.  Please share this with your parent/guardian.  Any questions, just stop by and ask us.  Have a good year!

6.         The annual staff needs your Summer Photos for the yearbook.  Please turn all photos into the Summer Photo box in the office.  Attention seniors:  we need your Looking Back photos.  Turn into the Looking Back box in the office. All photos due no later than October 1st.  Thanks!

7.         STUDENT PARKING:  beginning today, only carpools with valid parking passes may park in the pit and new pool parking lot.  Anyone else will be ticketed.  There is still arena parking in the other student lots.  Thanks

8.         Reminder to student drivers:  the staff at Ordway Elementary have assigned parking spots at the Mormon Church (LDS Church).  They use spots #101-121.  Please do not park there at any time.  ALSO:  Please note, BHS staff parking is reserved from 6:00AM to 4:00 PM.

9.         ATTENTION ALL SENIORS & JUNIORS:  College admissions counselors have been making plans to visit you here at Bainbridge High School and in the Seattle area.  The list is on the front page of the BHS main website.  It will also be posted right outside the Counseling Office in the hallway.  We will update it every Friday, so you should check it carefully from top to bottom to see if the college or university you are particularly interested will be on this side or the other side of the Puget Sound.

Representatives from the colleges DO pay attention to the people who meet with them.  It is a terrific opportunity to get your face and name front and center, prior to submitting your application!  These are the people who are likely to read the application first – in some cases, they are the Dean of Admission!

We do have a few rules about the visits which are only open to juniors and seniors:

1).  Students must sign up on the clipboard in the Counseling Office by the day before the session to be able to attend the session, unless the session occurs during your open, study hall or lunch.

2).  Students must notify the teacher before signing up, asking PERMISSION to be out of class.

3).  If student signs up, we assume s/he is coming.  We ask students to scratch their name off the list if they decide not to attend.

4).  Students may NOT sign up for someone else.

5).  Students must initial next to their name when they go to the session (for attendance).
